Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Department: Maintenance
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Starting Date: October 2025 (Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.)
Hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • ½ hour unpaid lunch break, and as needed for Snow Removal or other building emergency
Salary:  Salary starts at $32,000 and is commensurate with experience, education and credentials.

Position Summary: Repairs and maintains equipment, physical structures, controls, grounds, furniture and performs basic plumbing, mechanical and electrical functions on school grounds. 

In the event of inclement weather, this position is classified as essential. All essential staff are expected to be at work during inclement weather, unless otherwise advised by their supervisor.
  
Position Responsibilities:
  • General Building Maintenance:
    • Performs basic duties such as painting, repairing walls/holes, caulking; fixes light fixtures, replaces ballasts and light bulbs; fixes door knobs, closers and hinges; hangs shelving and moves furniture
    • Floor maintenance, buffing and waxing areas quarterly
  • Plumbing:
    • Performs general plumbing such as fixing, unclogging, and/or replacing faucets, sinks and toilets
  • Electrical:
    • Handles basic electrical needs to include replacing ballasts, bulbs, light fixtures, switches and outlets
  • Mechanical:
    • Performs general maintenance on equipment by greasing pumps, motors and bearings; changing and/or replacing motors, pump couplings, belts and filters
  • Grounds:
    • Maintains grounds by cutting, raking and trimming; weeding flower beds; collecting and removing leaves, grass clippings and branches 
    • snow removal
  • Other Duties:
    • Performs all other job-related functions as assigned
    • Assistance with projects designed by staff and students.
    • Opening of car doors and greeting children/ families daily

Position Qualifications:
    Required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to use hand tools, chain saws, grass/brush trimmers, drills, circular saws, lawn mowers, leave vacuums and operate all-terrain vehicles
  • Prior work experience in this field
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with a broad range of employees, students, and external contacts
  • Background checks - FBI, BCI, Safe Parish
  • Safe Parish training
Preferred
  • 5+ years general maintenance experience
  • Understanding and appreciation of the traditions and culture associated with the Sisters of Mercy

  • Carrying, Writing, Bending, Stooping, Grasping, Standing, Twisting, Sitting, Lifting, Walking, Kneeling, Reaching Overhead, Crouching, Filing Documents
  • Lifting/pulling/pushing up to 20 pounds continually
  • Occasional lifting, pulling, and pushing of equipment and materials weighing in excess of 100 pounds
  • Frequent ladder climbing and required reaching in all directions
  • Operate hand tools, garden equipment and electrical drills/saws
Visual/Audible Acuity Requirements
  • Must be able to see and hear clearly
  • Visual acuity up to 20 feet is required
  • Must have depth perception and be able to distinguish basic colors
  • Must have use of side vision
  • Must be able to read and distinguish small print.
